Santam has flown in extra assessors from all over the country to the damage stricken Western Cape. They are working day and night to finalise damage quotations after last weekend’s devastating ‘Black Southeaster’. Damages worth millions of rands have been caused to people’s cars and properties.
Santam Chief executive Steffen Gilbert says “Thirty assessors are currently assessing the 2 080 claims Santam has received to date. A hail damage expert from Pretoria is also stationed in our Stikland office to repair damaged vehicles.”
According to Gilbert the areas worst hit include Durbanville, Bellville, Kuilsriver, Brackenfell, Hermanus and Bredasdorp. Says Gilbert: “We have assessors in all these places to ensure a speedy assessment and claims settlement process. We are doing all we can to ensure peoples suffer as little inconvenience as possible from these unfortunate events.”
Gilbert advises everybody to draw up an inventory of all that you own and determine the value by writing down the prices of similar, new items alongside and to store it in a safe place (the office etc.) to be prepared for events like last weekend’s storm.
“And all really does mean all and includes things people don’t often think about like knives and forks. It’s really everything and the kitchen sink. It does help to speed up the claims process and ensure minimal life disruption from natural disasters.
